ABOUT OUR CHURCH
THE HISTORY OF CHUO KIKUU SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH

The Chuo Kikuu Seventh-day Adventist Church is part of many Seventh-day Adventist churches worldwide. The church is located within the University of Dar es Salaam, Ubungo district in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The church was formed as a company* in 1977 with only 16 members, including students and non-students.

In 1992, December 06, the company was officially installed as a church with a total of 68 members, and the elder of the church was Prof. Elisafi Bisanda. The purpose of the establishment and formation of this company was to fulfill the mission to spread the gospel and bring church services to the community within the University of Dar es Salaam and the surrounding areas of the campus (Matt 28:19-20).

Since its inception, the church has successfully established various companies that have subsequently become churches. The companies include Kimara, Makongo Juu, Golani and the Maili Sita in Masasi district. Now, Kimara, Golani and Makongo Juu are no longer companies as they have grown into churches and Kimara has eventually gave birth to other companies and leading to a now-established Kimara district.

Other church companies that the church has recently organized and handed over to other nearby Seventh-day Adventist churches for oversight include Babayu and Kwadelo in Dodoma. The church is currently serving a new company at Ubena Zomozi, Chalinze district.

As of September 2021, the church had a total of 632 members. Each year the church receives and serves students from within and outside the country including countries like Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Sudan and Nigeria. These students come to the University of Dar es Salaam and other neighboring colleges, where the church is located. The colleges include Ardhi University (ARU), Eastern Africa Statistical Training College (EASTC), Water Institute (WI) and the Law School of Tanzania (LST).

Although the church construction is underway at Changanyikeni, the church still carries on with its evangelistic mission, the Adventist Men Organization (AMO) has been at the forefront of doing God's work as building at Ubena Zomozi while DORCAS and the Adventist Women Ministries, are helping reach the needy. We pray for God's presence to continue to be with us as we serve Him in His Vineyard—to go to all the world, amen.

*Company is a group of isolated believers, a small gathering, a house church, or a church planting core group who come together in a specific geographical area for fellowship, worship, and mission.
